Welcome to Our Renovation Journey
We're Naomi & Colm - the naive couple behind this 1950s bungalow transformation; that’s us demonstrating how wide the gate posts are...
With backgrounds in healthcare, data, project management, and management consulting, we're attempting to use this combined experience to survive the journey of renovating a mid-century house into our ‘forever home’.
After viewing what felt like a thousand properties (and having a few fall through), we finally found "the one" - a 1950s detached bungalow that had remained in the same family since it was built. With sea views and huge renovation potential, it was exactly the project we'd been searching for.
Our Vision
We want to create to create a home that is:
Light-filled and thoughtfully organized with the right storage solutions
Family-friendly without compromising on style, designed to grow with our children as their needs change over time
Connected to the surrounding landscape with areas for entertaining
Energy efficient - we’re hoping to hit an A-rating
Full of character and clever design
Why We're Sharing
This blog was born from necessity. During our initial purchase and planning phase, we struggled to find practical information about renovation processes and family-home transformations that answered our specific questions.
We're fortunate to have friends and family who have navigated renovations themselves and friends within the construction industry who have pointed us in the right direction. As compulsive researchers, we've gathered insights from various sources now we're documenting our journey to share this knowledge, creating the resource we wished we had found from the start. We’ll aim to:
Keep a record for ourselves of our progress
Demystify the renovation process
Share authentic experiences—both successes and challenges
Connect with others on similar journeys
You'll hear from both of us throughout this blog, sharing different perspectives on the renovation process; thanks for joining us on this journey!
